Board Administrator Training

Our training program is the only one that guides you through the role and provides you with checklists, templates, and ideas required to provide exceptional support to your board and executive team.

Don’t Just Learn About the Role, Learn How to do the Job

Are you an Administrative Assistant or Executive Assistant who has been tasked with supporting the board of directors, but you haven’t received any training on how to effectively execute your role? Or are you looking to expand your current knowledge and experience to become a board administrator? Our Board Administrator Training is a hands-on course that doesn’t just tell you what the role is, we give you practical guidance and provide you with work plans, templates and ideas to help you provide superior support to your board and executive team.

Why Are We Qualified to Teach You How to Be a Board Administrator?

It’s not theory, it’s real-life experience.

We’ve been supporting boards for over 15 years and we are still supporting boards today. Our real-world experience isn’t a decade old; we work with clients across the country and around the world every day, and we continue to learn and share our latest experiences with our students. We get rave reviews because we are real people doing the work alongside you, learning from you, as you learn from us.

Our training program is a mix of live (online) classroom training including group discussions and case studies, assignments to help you develop materials for your board admin manual, and one-on-one training sessions to help tailor your application of the information presented in the classroom setting. We start with a review of basic governance principles, which are the foundation of the board administrator role, and we work through the meeting planning process, the meeting day, and the post-meeting procedures to give you a complete understanding of your role. If you would like to review a course outline and learn when our next course is scheduled to begin, contact us and we’ll be happy to have a no-obligation chat with you.

If you are in Canada, our training is eligible for the Canada Jobs Grant (executed provincially) which means your company could receive up to 2/3rds of the cost of the training covered by the government.

A Tailored Approach

Small and mid-sized company boards need administrative support too, and we can tailor a training program to fit with your structure.

One of the most common things that we see in small and mid-sized companies that don’t have an in-house corporate secretary is that the board administration duties often fall to an executive or administrative assistant. While they are typically eager to take on more responsibility, it is imperative that they receive training to understand what this part of their role entails and how to execute it effectively while providing maximum support to the board. With our robust board administration training program we work with the designated employee to help them understand how a board functions and how they can best support the management team, and the directors, particularly the board and committee chairs.

Our board administration training program can be tailored to your company’s needs and includes:

  • An overview of governance basics which provides a foundation for the role of the Board Administrator

  • Developing a tailored board and committee meeting process from start to finish including

    • Drafting and managing work plans

    • Working with the board and committee chairs to draft agendas

    • How to prepare, circulate and follow- up on action item lists

  • Learning how to take better board and committee minutes

  • Developing onboarding manuals and director education plans

  • Guidance on liaising with legal counsel, transfer agents, and others

  • And much more!

Whether you need someone to be trained to take minutes or they need to learn the entire board administrator role, we have the experience to help them learn their role and execute it professionally.
